The week of July 10, Mayor Kelly Yaede hosted a meeting of neighboring municipalities with representatives of Trenton Water Works to discuss reports of elevated contaminant levels in TWW’s system.
At the meeting, Yaede and officials from Ewing, Hopewell and Lawrence asked TWW representatives what they were doing about the reported contaminants and how to improve communication with the municipalities residents.
Representatives of Trenton Water Works made a presentation to the officials regarding the recent water quality issue, even though it does not pose any immediate health threat, and laid out a plan to correct the issue and achieve its ultimate goal of constant compliance with all applicable regulations.
TWW’s plan includes the flushing its systems, controlling the levels of disinfectants used to treat the water and cleaning the lines more frequently. TWW also committed to establishing a new phone system that would provide information and responses to customers 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
Yaede said she was happy with the results of the meeting.
“This sign of increasing cooperation between Trenton Water Works and the towns it serves instills a greater degree of confidence that should any issue arise in the future, the proper officials will be notified promptly so that the issue can be dealt with immediately and the residents of Hamilton Township can be ensured that their water is safe,” Yaede said in a statement.
