The Princeton Battlefield Area Preservation Society has taken steps to prevent construction of the Institute for Advanced Study’s housing project.
The group, also known as Princeton Battlefield Society, announced that they filed an appeal of the Princeton Planning Board’s approval of the housing project with the New Jersey Appellate Division.
PBS filed a de novo appeal that is set to appear in front of a three-judge panel. The panel plans to review the evidence anew and decide for itself the merits of the case as opposed to reviewing the decision of Superior Court Judge Jacobson, who upheld the board’s approval in June.
The planning board unanimously approved the faculty housing project in March 2012. The Institute for Advanced Study plans to build eight townhouses and seven single family homes on land where George Washington led a counterattack against the British in 1777.
PBS hopes the land, which is owned by the institute, is added to Princeton Battlefield State Park.
