Princeton University Concerts’ 2013-2014 season is set to being in October with a two-night performance by Takács String Quartet.
Single tickets to all PUC events are set to go on sale Sept. 3. Subscriptions are be available through the opening concert scheduled for Oct. 10.
PUC’s season features 15 concerts, including two special events, as well as its Richardson Chamber Players series.
The season kick-off with Takács String Quartet performance of all six Bartók string quartets performed in two evenings.
Concerts are scheduled for 8 p.m. on Oct. 10 and 11, with pre-concert talks given by Professors Steven Mackey and Scott Burnham at 7 p.m.
Takács is set to perform Quartets Nos. 1, 3 and 5 on Oct. 10 and Quartets Nos. 2, 4 and 6 on Oct. 11.
Following the concerts, the quartet will talk about the experience of playing these cornerstone works and answer questions in a post-concert Talk Back”
MandolinistChris Thile is set to make is PUC debut 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 24. His program includes transcriptions of the Bach Violin Sonatas and Partitas, plus original compositions and other contemporary works.
St. Lawrence String Quartetis scheduled to play 8 p.m. Nov. 7, with a pre-concert even at 7 p.m.
The program includes Haydn’s Quartet in D Major, Op. 71, No. 2, R. Murray Schafer’s Quartet No. 3 and DvoraK Quartet in A-flat Major, Op. 105.
Following the concert, ticketholder have the opportunity to participate in a Late Night Jam session, where the quartet will lead amateurs in a reading of Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 76, No. 3 (“Emperor”).
Richardson Chamber Players are set to play a concert called Brass Bonanza 3 p.m. on Nov. 10. Princeton’s resident ensemble of performance faculty, guest artists and students will play mixed chamber works featuring brass by Gabrieli, Gershwin, Boehme, Sanford and Brahms.
PUC’s first ever Meet the Music Family Concert is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Nov 16. The concert is designed for children age six and older. It is presented in collaboration with the Princeton Arts Council.
Musicians from The Chamber Society of Lincoln Center will join Inspector Pulse, a wacky private ear who must determine the identity of a highly ornamented tune for a desperate client. The tune has a familiar ring, but it is so full of trills, trinkets, and decorative doodads that the Inspector must investigate all the ways a melody can be embellished in order to solve the mystery. Featuring music of Telemann, Handel and Bach.
Pianist Behzod Abduraimov is scheduled to make his PUC debut 8 p.m. on Nov. 21, with a pre-concert event at 7 p.m. The program features work by Beethoven, Chopin, Saint-Saëns and Horowitz
Another debut, Danish String Quartet is scheduled to play 8 p.m. on Feb. 6, with a pre-concert event at 7 p.m. They are set to play A Journey Through Scandinavian Folk Music with works by Nielsen and Janacek.
Violinst Leonidas Kavakos and pianist Enrico Pace are set to perform 8 p.m. Feb. 27, with a pre-concert event at 7 p.m. Their all-Beethoven program include Sonata No. 4 in A Minor, Op. 23, Sonata No. 5 in F Major, Op. 24, “Spring” and Sonata No. 10 in G Major, Op. 96, “The Cockcrow.”
Richardson Chamber Players are scheduled to play a concert called Quiet City 3 p.m. on March 2. The program includes mixed chamber works by American composer, such as Elliott Carter, Walter Piston, Samuel Barber, Aaron Copland and Roy Harris.
Pianist Richard Goode and poet C.K. Williams is scheduled for 3 p.m. March 9. This concert was rescheduled from the 2012-2013 season.
The program features work by Works by Beethoven, Schumann, Mozart, Chopin, Bach, and Janacek, plus poems read by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet C.K. Williams.
A pre-concert discussion between C.K. Williams and Professor Jeff Dolven is set for 2 p.m.

The season’s second Meet the Music concert is set for 1 p.m. March 15.
Leave it to Ludwig features music by Beethoven and an appearance by the “composer” himself. The concert if performed by musicians from The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, hosted by Bruce Adolphe.
Pianist Craig Terry and mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato are set to perform 8 p.m. on March 27. with a pre-concert event at 7 p.m.
This is DiDonato’s only United States recital scheduled for the season. The program includes songs and arias by Vivaldi, Fauré, Rossini, Schubert, Schumann, Michael Head and Hahn.
The Nash Ensemble of London is scheduled to perform 8 p.m. on April 3, with a pre-concert event at 7 p.m.
The concert features two world premieres by Princeton composers Viet Cuong and Matt Marble, along with works by Schumann, Mozart and Dvorak.
Richardson Chamber Players are set to present This England 3 p.m. in April 6. The program features works by English composers including Ralph Vaughan Williams, Benjamin Britten, Arnold Bax and Edward Elgar.
Gallicantus, Renaissance Vocal Ensemble, is set to make its PUC debut 7 p.m. on April 12 at Procter Hall at The Princeton Graduate School. The Word Unspoken features the music of William Byrd and Philippe de Monte.
PUC’s season is set to closed with pianistPiotr Anderszewski 8 p.m. on May 1, with a pre-concert event at 7 p.m. The program includes works by Bach, Schumann and Schubert.
Concerts take place at Princeton University’s Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall, unless otherwise noted.
