Central volunteers help shoppers choose gifts on Dec. 15, 2013.
An Ewing church transformed its gymnasium into Santa’s Workshop on Dec. 15.
For the third year, Central: A Christ-Centered Church opened the doors to its deeply discounted Christmas shop to families in financial need.
More than 100 families from nine local social service agencies shopped for new gifts ranging from $1 to $5. Shoppers came from Habitat for Humanity, HomeFront, Trenton Family Preservation House, ChoiceOne, Isles, UIH, Doorway to Hope, Better Community Housing of Trenton and Greater Trenton BHC.
The store included a section dedicated to children where they could shop for their parents and siblings free of charge.
In addition, professional photographers donated their time to take family portraits.
The church collected 200 gifts and funds to purchase additional items. The total value of the shop’s items was about $8,000.
Proceeds from the shop, totaling $1,150, were donated to the Salvation Army of Trenton.
