I would like to publicly thank Linda Geevers, Kristina Samonte, and Bryan Maher, the three members of West Windsor’s Town Council who expressed a desire to keep the municipal tax rate unchanged. It was an important statement to make. It indicates a welcomed responsiveness to the demands of the town’s taxpayers. I also would point out that George Borek seemed close to voting with the majority, but chose not to do so. I hope he will change his mind by the time the budget is actually voted upon.
As for Kamal Khanna, I am deeply disappointed by his stubborn refusal to acknowledge even one line item in this budget that could be reduced. He did not even seem upset that the Township is on the hook for thousands of dollars worth of helicopter lessons! He only wanted to get a motion to approve payment for that ridiculous expense.
I have a question for Mr. Khanna: Why do you view Council as nothing more than a rubber stamp? I would expect you, as Council president, to be asking the tough questions and making suggestions on how to improve upon what the Administration has proposed.
Our tax burden at other levels of government will be rising in the years ahead. We will have little direct input over what happens. But we do have control over our town’s budget. So let’s control it!
I urge the residents of West Windsor to write to the Mayor and the Council members in support of the “zero-cent” increase principle. Make sure to show up at the Council meeting on April 16 to express your views.
