West Windsor-Plainsboro Education Foundation’s Youth Committee seeks singers, dancers, magicians, comedians, and other student performers for WW-P’s Got Talent, a talent show on Saturday, June 2, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., at Grover Middle School. Princeton Public Library is seeking summer volunteers entering grades 7 through 12 to help out with the annual summer reading clubs and other library activities. Potential volunteers are required to attend one of five orientation sessions scheduled for Tuesday, May 15, at 4 p.m.; Saturday, May 19, at noon; Wednesday, May 23, at 4 p.m.; Tuesday, May 29, at 7 p.m.; or Thursday, June 7, at 4 p.m. The teens are asked to work at least 10 hours during the summer and to commit to a regular schedule (with some flexibility). Edible Jersey Magazine and the New Jersey Farm to School Network are accepting entries for the inaugural School Garden of the Year award at www.njfarmtoschool.org. Open to any New Jersey preK-12 school, applicants must have had a school garden open during the 2011-2012 school year and be able to provide documentation through photos and video of its uses and existence. Gardens must be in established indoor or outdoor settings on school grounds. Raised beds and container gardens are considered acceptable for application to the contest. Mercer County Improvement Authority has a recycling contest for students in grades K to 8 in Mercer County. Artistic green and clean recycling bins are being sought after and the winning designs will be produced and displayed at both the Sun National Bank Center and Trenton’s Waterfront Park. The recycling bin needs to be constructed from recyclable cardboard. Dimensions should fall within 28” high, 19” wide, and 19” deep. You may incorporate logos, pictures, slogans, computer images, and recyclable materials on the bin. All materials used must be recyclable items. Deliver the form available at www.mcianj.org and recycling bin to the MCIA, 80 Hamilton Avenue, 2nd Floor, Trenton. The deadline is Monday, April 23. Community Connection of Princeton HealthCare’s training for the fourth annual Princeton Kids Marathon has begun. The program aims to combat childhood obesity by teaching young people about the importance of regular exercise and healthy living. Area schoolchildren in grades kindergarten through eight are invited to participate in the event on Sunday, June 10, at Princeton University Stadium. The 10-week training program in which kids walk, run, or roll 2.5 miles a week at their own pace, and gather on race day to complete the last 1.2 miles of the marathon together. Participants receive incentive prizes for every five miles completed prior to race day and can track their progress and receive training tips online. Register by Friday, May 18, for the program. Princeton Public Library is accepting original film submissions for the 2012 Princeton Student Film & Video Festival being held July 18 and 19. The student filmmakers will be invited to introduce and talk about their works. Deadline for submission is Monday, June 25. Submit original films with running times under 20 minutes. Some films will also be screened at the Artist Visions Film Festival in Lambertville. The festival is accepting film submissions from youth ages 14 to 25 from the Princeton area. There is no fee. For This One partnered with Lose the Training Wheels to teach children with disabilities how to ride a bicycle. Each camper in the five day program receives an hour of instruction a day using a series of adapted bikes and techniques. For children 8 and older with disabilities.
