Fordham University: Ryan Phelan, a sophomore from West Windsor was named Atlantic 10 Baseball player of the week. A catcher, Phelan has set personal-bests with 34 games played, three doubles, and 12 RBI.

Phelan had his best weekend as a Ram, hitting .500 (5-10) during Fordham’s series win over first-place Rhode Island, collecting five RBI and three extra-base hits. He had a career day in the series finale on May 6, finishing a single short of the cycle. He was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, his first career home run, two runs scored, and tied a career-best with four RBI. Phelan is the only Ram to register a four-RBI game this season, having done so twice.

Phelan and the rest of the Fordham baseball team (21-30, 12-9 Atlantic 10) will next be in action on May 12 and 13, in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, for a two-game series with the Boston College Eagles.

New York University: Steven Au-Yeung of West Windsor was one of 16 undergraduates honored with the NYU Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Award. He was presented with the award at a ceremony on Thursday, May 3, at NYU’s Palladium athletic facility. To earn the award, a student must be graduating with a grade point average of 3.5 or better and have competed for a minimum of two years on an intercollegiate team.

A four-year cross country runner and three-year track and field team member, Au-Yeung earned All-America honors as a member of NYU’s seventh-place distance medley relay team (10:09.53) at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships. He was also a member of the distance medley relay team that won a silver medal and set the NYU record (9:54.88) at the 2011 ECAC Indoor Championships.

In the 800 meters, Au-Yeung posted an indoor career best 1:56.96 as a sophomore and ran an outdoor career best of 1:55.61 as a junior, the same season in which he won the 800-meter event at the Matthew Vassar Invitational. Au-Yeung was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week during the 2011 indoor season.

An economics major in NYU’s College of Arts and Science, Au-Yeung was a seven-time UAA fall, winter, and spring sport All-Academic honoree. He has also made the Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Committee fall and spring honor rolls five times.
