#b#Off to Scotland#/b#

Adam McGill, in costume above, of West Windsor is traveling to Scotland this summer to perform at the Edinburg Fringe Festival. A student at the Pennington School, he is one of the drama students performing “Wonderland,” an adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass,” both written by Darby O’Hara, a Pennington graduate, and Lisa Houston, director of drama at Pennington.

#b#Figure Skating Scholarship Given#/b#

Kelsey Daniels of West Windsor received a $50 scholarship award by the New Jersey Council of Figure Skating Clubs, a program to recognize student-athletes. She will be honored at a recognition ceremony at the 49th annual championships on the weekend of June 1 to 3.

A senior at High School South, Daniels is a member of the National Honor Society and an active participant in the Red Cross club. She has performed in the school’s musical productions and is a director of Pirate Players.

As a member of Glissad Figure Skating Academy she has earned her gold medal in Moves in the Field. She is presently a member of Team Delaware Novice Synchronized Skating Team and previously was a member of Chill and Grace Synchronized Skating Team. She is a member of the Junior Board at Glissad Figure Skating Academy.

“These years have taught me the important lesson to remain open to the possibilities life presents me with. I have developed as a skater and team player but most of all as an individual excited to take on life’s challenges,” Daniels wrote in her essay. “Now when I step onto the ice with my teammates, I feel I am where I should be.”

Grover Middle School students, William Jiao, eighth grade, and Tylen Shen, seventh grade, were members of the New Jersey middle school team that participated in the national MathCounts competition in Florida. Out of 56 teams, the team received 10th place honors. Jiao was the top scorer from New Jersey and placed 31st (out of 224). Alyce Doehner, a teacher at Grover Middle School, was the team’s advisor.

#b#Science Olympiad Places 15th in USA#/b#

The Community Middle School Science Olympiad team ranked 15th in the nation in the 2012 Science Olympiad National Competition. The CMS team of 17 students (12 students from CMS and five grade nine students from High School North) competed against 60 schools in 23 events. The team is coached by Kyle Schimpf, Taran Patton, and Arthur Downs. In addition to the team ranking, the students earned five medals:

Helicopter Egg Drop: Gold Medal for Andrew Hong (Grade 8) and Vrinda Gupta (Grade 8)

Anatomy: Gold Medal for Jeremy Zhang (Grade 8) and Jasen Zhang (Grade 8)

Keep the Heat: Bronze Medal for Suntharam Solai (Grade 9) and Jacob Edelman (Grade 8)

Mousetrap Vehicle: Sixth Place Medal for Louis Wang (Grade 9) and Jeremy Zhang (Grade 8)

Rocks and Minerals: Sixth Place Medal for Varun Subbiah (Grade 8) and Reuben Van Eck (Grade 8)

#b#Cub Scouts#/b#

A rank graduation ceremony for Cub Scouts Pack 759 was held Friday, May 18, in Queenship of Mary Church. Cub scouting begins with the rank of Tiger Cubs for first grade students, who participate in all activities and projects with their parents as partners. Second and third grade students, ranked as Wolf and Bear Cubs, respectively, work with their families and their dens. Students in fourth and fifth grades are ranked as Webelos, who prepare to become Boy Scouts through a more challenging program.

Sixteen Webelos from Cub Scouts Pack 759 bridged into Boy Scouts during an Arrow of Light ceremony on March 23. They include Santiago Callegari, Anshuman Punji, Matthew Gawroniak, Anuj Dutta, Rohan Nandal, Evan Lenkeit, Anthony Giang, Robert Nelson, Tianyi Peng, Collin Corriveau, Richard Maffei, Benjamin Perez, Liam Stern, Brandon Collins, Ryan Vandenberg, and Trey Pfaltzgraff.

The High School South Science Olympiad team,the New Jersey champion, placed ninth in the National Science Olympiad competition competing against 60 teams from 49 states. Team members include Peter Ku, Charles Zhou, Jonathan Ting, John Kuan, Sarath Jaladi, Udit Gupta, Maymur Baig, Bill Yang Huang, Alexander Clifton, Jason Shi, Ikshita Singh, Sophia Liu, Aayush Visaria, Jeffrey Kuan, Neil Chitrao, Rishabh Singh, Chaitanya Asawa, Alex Zhou, and Andrew Chen. The team coach is Meenakshi Bhattacharya.

#b#Five From WW-P Will Attend Urban Teacher Academy#/b#

Five students from WW-P high schools have been accepted into the 2012 Urban Teacher Academy at the College of New Jersey. An intensive summer experience in teaching in urban centers and in the educational, social, and economic challenges facing teachers in urban communities, the program is designed for high school juniors who are considering teaching in high poverty schools, hard-to-staff school districts, and/or high shortage subject areas. The high school students will have an opportunity to teach lessons to elementary children enrolled in a summer camp program in Mercer County.

The students include Mollie Miller, Jessica Oertel, and Tiffany Rodriguez from High School South; and Emily Maggio and Jess Warshauer from High School North. Teacher Dawn Bozian is their advisor. Rodriguez is also the recipient of the National Future Educators Association and the New Jersey Future Education student achievement awards.
