At the school board meeting on Tuesday, June 5, the board also took the following actions:
– Kenneth Carter was appointed as the new choral music teacher at High School North, replacing Mary Jacobsen, who retired after 22 years with the district (WW-P News, April 27).
– Two insurance agreements were approved by the school board: Horizon Blue Cross/ Blue Shield of New Jersey for employee prescription drug plans, reflecting a four percent increase, and Delta Dental for employee dental insurance, reflecting an 8 percent increase next year. The agreement with Delta Dental is for two years and in the second year, 2013-’14, there will be no increase.
– Antonella Vescusco will serve as the new anti-bullying specialist at High School South for the 2012-’13 school year.
– A new policy on the acceptable use of computer networks/computers and resources will be implemented for 2012-’13. The full policy will be posted on the district’s website, ww-p.org.
– The school board approved one teacher to attend the Exeter Humanities Institute in New Hampshire from June 24 through June 29 at a cost not to exceed $1,000.
– Summer reading lists for middle school and high school students were approved, and the lists will be posted on the district’s website in mid-June.
– The school board approved the disposal of obsolete equipment that has met the school district’s life epectancy, due to age and physical condition. The items to be discarded include the following:
Thirty-four PC laptops; 94 PC desktops; 29 eMacs, 23 Mac PPC Gooseneck iMac and G3 CPUs desktops; four G3 Macs; 57 flat-panel displays; 17 rack-mounted computers; four PC docks; 49 CRT displays; one Mac laptop; 43 keyboards; three upholstered multi-task computer chairs; 19 printers; two fax machines; five VCRs; 12 laptop bags; one scanner; two network switches; seven batteries, one projector; one laminator; one Dell R610 blade server; one Dell R710HD blade server; and one Dell M1000e chassis. Eight boxes of miscellaneous wires, speakers, and cords will also be disposed.
