Football

South (5-1) A 35-6 win at Burlington Township on October 12. Passing: Andrew Schopfer, 6-10-142, 1 TD. Rushing: Schoenauer, 31-154, 3 TDs.

The Pirates improved to 5-1 with a strong offensive performance on the road. South built up a three touchdown lead early and never looked back, as backup quarterback Andrew Schopfer, a junior, completed six of his ten pass attempts for 142 yards. The Pirates’ began their scoring onslaught with Schopfer’s 79-yard touchdown pass to receiver T.J. Lanzetta midway through the first quarter. South’s star running back Brian Schoenauer scored three touchdowns as he carried the ball 31 times and racked up 154 rushing yards. South’s final touchdown of the night came on a carry by running back Mike Domino, who came in for Schoenauer with eight minutes left in the game.

A win over Rancocas Valley, 24-15, on October 6.

Rushing: Brian Schoenaur, 15-300, 3 touchdowns, 18 total points. Schoenauer became the Colonial Valley Conference’s all-time leader in rushing yards with 4,009.

North (0-6). A loss to Steinert, 28-14, on October 13. Rushing: Tyrone Parker had 31 carries for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns, but the Knights fell short after taking the lead early on. With 4:59 left North trailed 21-14, and the Knights had the ball. But a pass from quarterback Kevin Murphy was intercepted by Steinert, and another touchdown put the game out of reach for the Knights.

Jay Biletta recovered a fumble for North in the first quarter, and the Knights went ahead 7-0 after Parker scored on a 26-yard touchdown run. The Knights took a 14-0 lead after Parker scored on a 5-yard carry in the second quarter, and North maintained a 14-7 halftime lead before Steinert made a comeback in the second half.

A loss to Notre Dame, 28-0, on October 5.
