Bradley Farquhar of West Windsor canceled his scheduled swim across the English Channel. The 21-mile body of water takes close to 20 hours to cross — in good conditions. A combination of weather, low water temperatures, and other factors resulted in the cancellation. Farquhar was planning to donate all funds raised to Crohn’s Disease research.

He began swimming five years ago and began the project earlier this year. Training was with the Princeton Area Masters swimming association and Farquhar swam in the ocean to get used to the cold.

A 2008 graduate of Saint Mary’s University with a degree in business, Farquhar is president and co-founder of Sky High Energy located on Everett Drive in West Windsor.

The company is headquartered in Arizona and has offices in Massachusetts, Missouri, and at 51 Everett Drive. Each of these areas of operation were chosen, Farquhar says, because of the main thing that has driven the growth of residential solar — state incentives.

The company was founded in 2010, partly by Farquhar, a Canadian immigrant who grew up in Nova Scotia and worked various jobs in the states until he could move here. Farquhar ran a small residential construction company straight out of college and chose to merge his experience with his interest in renewable energy.

Farquhar has raised close to $5,000 for Crohn’s research. “Because of the weather I was not able to swim the English Channel this year however I have re-registered to swim in August, 2013,” says Farquhar.

Former West Windsor resident Ethan Hawke is onstage in Manhattan at the Classic Stage Company’s “Ivanov,” a play by Anton Chekhov. “Playing the part feels a bit like going inside a cave,” Hawke said in an interview with Time Out New York. “It’s a black hole. It’s terrifying.” The play is directed by Austin Pendleton, who Hawke first worked with in 1992, and has been his coach in several projects through the years.

“Chekhov shows people as they are, and they reveal how funny they can be without intending to,” says Hawke in the story. “This play is a little like Springsteen’s Darkness on the Edge of Town; Chekhov is not interested in smoothing out any rough edges.” “Ivanov” is at Classic Stage Company, 136 East 13th Street, through December 9.
