Manisha and Yogi Mehta of West Windsor are the parents of the first baby born in Mercer County this year. Their first child, a daughter, was born at University Medical Center at Princeton just 32 seconds after 2012 began.
On New Year’s Eve the couple enjoyed lunch at Macaroni Grill in West Windsor. Although there were plans to see “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” at MarketFair, Manisha began labor a week ahead of her January 7 due date . “We agreed to just go home and relax,” says Yogi. The couple went to their home on Gossamer Court to rest — and stayed home until 9:30 p.m.
When they arrived at the hospital it was anyone’s guess whether the baby would be born in 2011 or 2012. Dr. Vrunda Patel delivered the baby girl weighing 6 pounds, 5 ounces, and measuring 19.75 inches long. “It was a very normal delivery,” says Yogi. The baby is named Jia Yogi Mehta.
The couple lived in Philadelphia for five years before moving to West Windsor in September. The new father works for a financial firm in New York City. The new mother is on maternity leave from her job as manager for the oncology department at Bristol-Myers Squibb in Plainsboro.
The maternal grandparents, Shilpa and Veeren Sheth, live in Lawrenceville. The paternal grandparents, Madhu and Pankaj Mehta, live in India.
To celebrate the New Year’s baby, Community Connection of Princeton HealthCare and the maternity department at UMCP presented the family with gifts, including a gift card to Babies R Us; a Lenox vase with a rose for the baby; a floral arrangement for mom; the baby’s first outfit and purse; a plush, lamb-shaped mat; and a blanket knitted by patients in the eating disorders unit at UMCP.

A son was born to Plainsboro residents Daniela Snyder and Paul M. Johnson, December 14.
Daughters were born to Plainsboro residents Aruna Jaidi and Karthik Reddy Jaidi, December 30; and Vineela Madupalli and Naveen K. Chitluri, January 1.
