We hope that the families of West Windsor and Plainsboro townships are safe in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Sandy. Our hearts go out to those who have suffered great losses and hardships.
Due to the extraordinary circumstances created by this powerful storm, WW-P schools were closed for five days. As we prepared over the weekend to reopen school on Monday, November 5, we were advised that we should expect that two of our 10 schools would be without electrical power.
Yet, we were not without resources: St. David the King Catholic Church in West Windsor and Princeton Alliance Church in Plainsboro opened their doors to provide us with appropriate spaces for a much-needed school day for over 1,800 students from Grades 4 through 8 who attend Village School and Thomas Grover Middle School.
The generous assistance of the church leaders and their staffs coupled with the can-do attitudes of the school district’s teachers, educational support personnel, bus drivers, and administrators, allowed us to resume the education of all WW-P students. Our students proved that they are flexible and cooperative, and they actively engaged in learning in their temporary school sites. Our parents appreciated that their children were able to return to school.
Special thanks are extended to all the parent volunteers and staff members who ensured that our families were informed about the changes through various means of communication. Fortunately, electrical power was restored by Monday evening, and students were able to return to normal routines on Tuesday morning.
Working together in both good times and times of adversity is the hallmark of a strong and enduring community relationship. The West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District values the commitment of our faith-based organizations and other community organizations that serve our residents.
