#b#Plainsboro CERT Members Graduate#/b#

Plainsboro Police Department and the Plainsboro Office of Emergency Management have announced the graduation of the 2012 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Over the past 10 weeks the 15-member class has attended weekly training in disaster preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations, search and rescue, CERT organization, disaster psychology and terrorism awareness. Classes included both lecture and practical training. Several formerly trained CERT members attended the training as a refresher.

The CERT team assisted for several days during superstorm Sandy. CERT was responsible for managing the township shelter during the storm as well as assisting the Plainsboro township fire department with food and clothing collection and distribution at the shore region. “The CERT Team should be commended for their dedication and commitment to the Plainsboro community and for their timely assistance during Sandy,” said Deputy Mayor Neil Lewis.

Since the start of Plainsboro CERT in early 2004 the organization has trained more than 125 people and has been one of the largest CERT teams in the state of New Jersey. In the wake of superstorm Sandy, it has never been more necessary to have the volunteer assistance from trained community members. For information contact Plainsboro OEM Deputy Coordinator Steven Holmes at 609-799-2333, ext. 1687.
