While the online crowd was predictably negative in its view of the school budget resolution ($5 million in cuts would have been preferable to $500,000), the comments in the last two weeks at wwpinfo.com nevertheless included some constructive criticism.
One reader, responding to the news of the departure of assistant superintendent Russell Lazovick, offered the following analysis:
“The board needs to focus on hiring administrators who are committed to the needs of WW-P and not just looking for a quick step up on the resume ladder. Last, the board needs to start hiring administrators who reflect the cultural and linguistic diversity of our community.”
Others saw an opportunity for lessons to be learned from the Rutgers dormitory spying case. “Ms. Wei appeared very scared and sad. It would be great to see her become a champion against bullying out of this horrible situation. I wonder if she would do that.”
The report of the elementary student detained because school officials suspected her of stealing a bottle of water was termed “truly amazing. The school officials did not believe the parents!!
“The last I heard our township is looking to slash expenses related to school. This looks like a great opportunity to save some costs: terminating an employee for incompetence will not require any severance or maybe even reduce those projected pension expenses.”
“I would like the parents to keep the public informed on how this incident is being handled by our school board. I am appalled at the schools response regarding the E-mail and what seems like an attempt to keep this hidden from public’s view.”
In a rare show of online affection, a reader offered thanks to the retiring Plainsboro Library director Jinny Baeckler:
“Jinny, you have made the town of Plainsboro what it is. There is no other public official who has done as much as you in terms of education and culture and math and science and language learning in this town! We will always treasure you and your spirit will forever be present in the new library — a centerpiece of your accomplishments. Have a great retirement and know that we will always treasure you and your work!”
