In time for the Fourth of July weekend, road bed reconstruction and regrading through the S-curve on Alexander Road is now complete, and the road is now “base paved and temporarily striped for public use,” West Windsor officials announced.
As a result, commuters began using the roadway — which was temporarily closed between Canal Pointe Boulevard and Canal Road — on June 30.
But delays are not completely over. According to township officials, final paving will take place over several nights in late July and early August. The reason why construction crews are waiting until late July to resume work is to allow for any final settlement of the reconstructed road bed and utility trenches. New dates for the work will be announced when they are established.
During all night work, the road will be closed to traffic and the full detour will again take effect.
“Intermittent shoulder closures and/or alternating lane closures will occur between June 30 and completion of the top course paving, as necessary for pavement repairs or ancillary work items,” stated a press release from West Windsor officials. “Alternating lane closures, when required, will occur from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.”
The designated bike lanes will be completed and bike lane signage installed after final paving. The public sidewalk is available and open to the public.
