Shirdi Sai Dham, an organization based in West Windsor presents its ninth annual Indo American Fair at Mercer County Park on Saturday and Sunday, September 3 and 4. Admission is $2. The event will be held rain or shine.
“The purpose of the event is to bring together the community and various businesses under one roof, promote diversity, and an opportunity to network,” says Rajesh Anand of West Windsor. “It is also aimed at promoting understanding and appreciation of India’s rich culture, craft, and culinary arts.”
One of the largest South Asian festivals in North America, it features performances of music and dance and vendors specializing in Indian food.
This year’s stars include Padmini Kolhapure, a Bollywood actress, and Marzi, a Bollywood choreographer, both traveling from Bombay, India. Film personality Shweta Subra, an Indo-Canadian star, will also perform.
Indian cuisine, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, will be offered by restaurants including Abhiruchi, Ganges, Indian Hut, Anjapar, and Cake Walk. Fashion vendors will be selling “kurti” tops, silk sarees, scarfs, stoles, handicrafts, bags, jewelry, bangles, diamond jewelry, and one gram gold jewelry.
“It is a wonderful business fair showcasing Indian art and handicrafts, costume jewelry, traditional dresses, Indian cuisine, and an array of Indian classical and popular performing Bollywood dancing groups,” says Anand. “The musical attractions will include dances from various New Jersey schools and singing by local artists from the South Asian Community.”
