Plainsboro Township Administrator Robert Sheehan has announced some projects he hopes can be funded through various state grants.
“In recent years there have been several different types of grants that the DOT has put out and we have seen them simplify that a little this year with traditional municipal aid, a bikeway grant, and a safe-streets-to-transit grant, which in years past funded the improvements in and around Plainsboro’s municipal complex,” he said.
Sheehan told the Committee the number one recommendation is applying for a grant to fund improvements at the intersection of Plainsboro Road and Parkway Avenue.
“There’s been a lot of feedback from the public and we believe it is smart to spend some attention and resources there, primarily to improve pedestrian access, make pavement improvements, and install pedestrian signals, which unfortunately are not there,” he said.
The total project cost would be nearly $1.3 million.
Other projects considered included road improvements on Plainsboro Road between Maple and Schalks Crossing roads as well as on Research Way. Sheehan said both areas will need attention in the coming years, but they are secondary priorities to Plainsboro Road.
For the bikeway grant the proposed idea would be a multi-use path on Grover’s Mill Road from Cora Lane to connect with residential and school properties.
Finally, for a safe-streets-to-transit grant Plainsboro will seek funding that will propel modifications for bus shelters at the intersection of Scudders Mill Road and Dey Road. Sheehan said an agreement is in place with the county for the shelters, so modifications on each site must be made to accommodate them.
New Promotional Brochures. A contract has been entered with Thomas/Boyd Communications for new brochures promoting the township. Sheehan said the the negotiated amount came to $2,500, which the council agreed was a bargain.
