Safe Driving Day. Plainsboro police will set up extra patrols on Monday, October 10, to commemorate “Put the Brakes on Fatality Day” — a national initiative to increase safe driving behavior such as buckling seat belts all of the time and obeying posted speed limits.
Although West Windsor recorded a fatal accident just last month (on North Post Road on September 6), Plainsboro Township has not had a fatal accident since 2007, when there were four. Deputy Mayor Neil Lewis said public awareness and education would be the key to continuing this trend. Last year 556 people were killed in car crashes across New Jersey, continuing a downward trend that brings current totals to their lowest point since the 1940s.
Community Concerns. Plainsboro Police will be using a grant to do special patrols on the golf course behind a nearby apartment complex. Lieutenant Jay Duffy said instances of vandalism and loitering prompted the response from police. Duffy told the town committee that measures would be taken to prevent trespassing on the golf course.
Truck Purchase. On Wednesday, October 12 the Plainsboro Township Committee is set to vote on utilizing a state contract award for a Ford F-450 truck designed for emergency services use. The truck has a retail price of $49,165 and Mayor Peter Cantu said the cost was built into the yearly budget.
Committee is also expected to authorize the disposition of two vehicles seized in police investigations, a 2010 Ford Mustang with 35,000 miles and a 2008 Ford Focus with more than 100,000 miles.
Committee Appointments. Mayor Cantu and the committee chose to postpone until the end of the year the appointment of a new member of the Human Relations Council and the Shade Tree Committee.
