Back in Action Chiropractic stands tall with patients

Patients of Back in Action Chiropractic know they will get a warm welcome and a short waiting time when they enter the office’s waiting room.

Chiropractor Dr. Doris Soernssen-Hahn says that that is what makes her office special.

“When our patients come through our doors, they aren’t entering a normal doctor’s office. Our receptionist greets everyone by their first name, asks them about their kids and families, and makes everyone very comfortable,” she said.

Since Back in Action Chiropractic is a small office with only three consultation rooms and one room for massage therapy, Soernssen-Hahn avoids crowding the office by spacing out her appointments.

“We really try to have one patient in at a time,” she said. “That way there is little to no waiting time in the waiting room, and we can give more individualized attention to each patient.”

Soernssen-Han has been a chiropractor for 11 years, and earned her chiropractic degree from New York Chiropractic College in 2000.

She worked in several other offices to learn office management skills before setting up her own business in Mount Laurel in 2002. Two years later, she moved the office to Ewing, where it is today.

Back in Action Chiropractic offers not only chiropractic services, but massage therapy as well. Monika Miletics, a massage therapist for over 10 years, performs a variety of massages, including hot stone, reiki, prenatal, deep tissue, and Swedish.

The office is also looking to fill an opening for an acupuncturist.

Soernssen-Hahn believes having different services offered in one office benefits the patient.

“This office serves as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for patients,” she said. “I can suggest other treatments outside of services I can perform, and refer them to someone else in this same office. It also opens patients up to a combination of different practices instead of just one.”

Patients of all ages and ailments go to the office seeking treatment. Soernssen-Hahn has seen babies for adjustments after birth trauma as well as seniors who come in for regular services.

Most commonly, patients go in for problems with back pain, sciatica, disc injuries, and headaches. For many, however, their first visit is not their last.

“Most people who come once end up coming again because they like it so much. They come in with one problem, and return for regular readjustments and checkups,” she said.

Both Soernssen-Hahn and Miletics regularly attend seminars to stay on top of recent trends and techniques in their respective fields. At one such seminar, they learned about using kinesio athletic tape made popular by athletes like volleyball player Kerri Walsh, which is used to support muscles and ease muscle pain.

The office is also updated with new types of equipment, like their DTS table, which is a table that is said to improve blood flow through gentle decompression of the spine. The table has a computerized screen to help Soernssen-Hahn specialize the type of treatment the patient will receive.

“There is nothing on the planet that is even close to how complex a human body is,” Soernssen-Hahn said.

Back in Action Chiropractic accepts most insurance, but patients may pay for services with cash. They are located at 1074 Parkway Ave. in Ewing.
