It’s time to look at the facts. Pedestrian accidents and fatalities rose dramatically across the country when we went to “pedestrian political correctness.”
These faux cross walks have given pedestrians a false sense of security, that in fact moving automobiles will actually yield. Absent a stop sign or crossing light, pedestrians need to make sure that the way is clear to walk or not cross.
Even worse is the ever-rising situation when defiant pedestrians dart out into an unprotected crosswalk daring an oncoming motorist to abruptly stop, causing an increased risk of an automobile accident. The law is unclear as to the responsibility of the motorist in the area of unprotected crossing configurations. Let’s clarify the ambiguity for the motorist, and let’s inform the walking public that the consequences of their decisions could be fatal.
