The Township Committee is expected to approve contract extensions for the architects working on the new library project, as well as for the library project manager, on Wednesday, February 10.
The contract for BKSK Architects, of Manhattan, as well as Cary Spiegel, who is coordinating the construction project, needed to be renewed because of the delays that have pushed construction back.
This will be the third extension for BKSK, which will be renewed, at an additional cost of $12,500. For Spiegel, the increase will bring the contract to $45,000.
Work on the future Plainsboro Library is still ongoing, but officials are hoping a certificate of occupancy comes soon. Until the township obtains a temporary CO, not even library staff can enter the building to begin setting up the library’s interior.
Said Mayor Peter Cantu: “We’re agonizingly close to obtaining a CO on the project.”
Upon completion, the $12.4 million library will hold 125,000 volumes and provide informal reading areas, display space for art, quiet study rooms, 40 computer stations, a children’s section with an expanded science/computer center, a local history room, and community meeting rooms. In addition, it will feature a health education center and independent study rooms.
There is still no opening date scheduled for the new library.
