North graduate Ryan Sleeper won the 1,000-meter with a time of 2:28.66 for Vermont at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games. He was also named the UVM/Sheraton Hotel Student-Athlete of the week for the first week in February.
South senior Sara Burnosky, a goalie for the girl’s field hockey team, signed a letter of intent to play field hockey at Michigan State University.
North ice hockey star Marc Raziano was one of the players making the New Jersey Devils’ High School Player of the Month designation in December. Each month, from December through February, seven student-athletes in New Jersey are selected as recipients of the award.
Kia Ponader, a sophomore at High School North, contributed the highest all-around score for the Paramount Gymnastics’ Level 9 team, helping lead her team to first place on January 16 at the Northeast Invitational Women’s Gymnastics meet in Hartford, CT. Ponader placed second on floor and sixth all-around in the 15-year-old age group.
The North and South ice hockey teams honored the late David Bachner, who would have turned 19 last month, during their game on January 23. South’s Adam Rothman and North’s Marc Raziano escorted Bachner’s mother and father, respectively, out to the ice for the ceremonial puck drop. Adam Kessler, a former North hockey star presented the Bachners with flowers.
During the game, volunteers raised money for the David J. Bachner Memorial Fund by selling baked goods and T-shirts.
South graduate Becky Peters scored six points in Fordham’s women’s basketball team’s win over Rhode Island.
Kate Winters, a South graduate, was part of Rowan’s swim team’s winning 200-yard medley relay team against Montclair State. South graduate Ryan Sleeper ran for a third-place finish in the mile event for Vermont in the Sorlein Memorial at Rhode Island.
Erin Simon, of West Windsor, and a senior at the Pennington School, signed an NCAA Letter of Intent to play soccer for Rutgers.
West Windsor resident Marissa Kirkendoll placed third in the 50 breaststroke, with a time of 37.72, and fourth place in the 100 breaststroke, with a time of 1:19.12, at the Princeton Invitational 2010 on January 16 and 17. Kirkendoll, of the Eastern Express team, also won fifth place in the 100 back (1:12.16) and the 100 IM (1:10.92).
