A benefit afternoon will be held Saturday, March 13, to benefit Ivy Jang and her family, longtime West Windsor residents. Friends are raising funds for them to purchase a used wheelchair van for Ivy, who has serious health problems. A buffet lunch and silent auction will be held at Super Star East Buffet in Nassau Park beginning at noon. Tickets are $20 and a silent auction will be held.
Jang, a former computer programmer in the World Trade Center who was active in community service including clean-up campaigns along the D&R Canal, WW-P school fundraisers, and in her church, lost many friends and colleagues on 9/11. She had chosen to work from home that day.
In 2006 she was diagnosed with uterine cancer. Soon she was cancer-free, but in 2008 she suffered from a debilitating stroke. Her husband Lii is able to work from home while caring for her. Their sons are Alex, a college graduate who volunteers with the West Windsor Community Emergency Response Team; and Andrew, a student at Rutgers.
Although Jang has come a long way in healing, she still requires assistance 24 hours a day. “She is slowly gaining back the ability to speak, and has some mobility on her right side,” says Jan Sun, the event organizer. “She is off the feeding tube, has started to eat solid food again, and is able to sit in a wheelchair. Ivy is determined to make a full recovery.”
Committee members include Scott Wustefeld, Jenifer Wustefeld, Gina Park, Yeena Ng, and Liang Hwang. For information E-mail jan1sun@verizon.net.
