North boys’ lacrosse star Todd Petrone scored his 100th career goal on the first shot of the game in the team’s win over Ewing on April 22.

South volleyball star Lea Williams has signed a National Letter of Intent to accept a full scholarship to Virginia Commonwealth University.

Anthony Aloi, South graduate, shot 73-72-70—215 to finish seventh to help the Furman University golf team claim the Southern Conference championship on April 20 at the Country Club of South Carolina.

West Windsor resident Steve Kellner finished 14th out of 127, with a time of 20:15.49, at the Fit for Life 5k Run in Hightstown.

South graduate Eric Valero, a freshman at Rensselaer, scored three goals in the lacrosse team’s 10-9 win over Skidmore.

West Windsor resident Roman Horoszewski, a swimmer with Peddie Aquatics Association, finished in the top three at New Jersey Junior Olympics on April 2. He placed first in the 1650 Free, with a time of 18:26.03 in the boys’ 11-12 age group; second in the 500 free, with a time of 5:20.88; third in the 200 free, with a time of 2:00.78; and third in the 1000 Free, with a time of 11:02.63. At the Eastern Zone Swimming’s Short Course Age Group Championship in Rochester, New York, he placed 12th in the 200 Free (1:59.36); 13th in the 500 Free (5:19.33); and 23rd in the 100 Free (57.40).

In the same competition, Safee Belbina, also of West Windsor placed first in the girls’ 11-12 group in the 1650 free, with a time of 18:35.10; second in the 1000 Free, with a time of 11:05.67; and second in the 500 Free, with a time of 5:26.51. At the Eastern Zone Swimming’s Short Course Age Group Championship in Rochester, New York, she placed 19th in the 11/12 Women’s 500 Free (5:31.21).

Also, Rabia Syed, also of West Windsor, placed third in the girls’ 11-12 age group in both the 200 Free, with a time of 2:03.26 and the 500 Free, with a time of 5:32.68.

Scott Kelly, North graduate and a freshman on the College of New Jersey baseball team, hit a single, stole second, and came home on a sacrifice fly in the team’s win against St. Joseph’s College on April 13.

North sophomore Kia Ponader, competing in the Senior A Group, scored a 9.4 in the floor exercise at the New Jersey Gynmastics State Championship in March to become champion in the event. She placed also 7th on vault with a 9.025, 5th on uneven bars with an 8.95, and she scored 8.675 on balance beam. She finished 4th in the All-Around with a 36.05. The score earned her a spot at the Region 7 Championship.

In February Ponader also captured the top spot on the floor exercise at the Pink Invitational-Gymnasts Unite in Downingtown, PA. In that competition, she also placed 4th on vault. Prior to the state championship, Ponader won first place on the floor event in the Level 9, 15-year-old age group with a score of 9.375 at the Rutgers Twilight invitational. Ponader earned 4th in the All-Around with a score of 35.275.
