When it comes to furnishing a home, people have a spectrum of needs – from price to finish to the function.
Fortunately, The Furniture Mill offers customers a variety of services to meet their needs.
The Furniture Mill sells, repairs and refinishes finished and unfinished furniture. Unfinished furniture is the most recent addition to its services and sales.
Husband and wife John and Barb Conover opened the mill in 1982 and are still running it today with their daughter, Kristi Reading. The business shares land with another one of the family’s businesses, Buxton’s Boxes and Self Storage. The Mill has gradually transformed over the years to increase products, services and sales.
“We’ve been in business almost 30 years, and we keep adding,” Reading said.
Reading said the family’s business mainly works with furniture repair and refinishing but due to high demand, has expanded to include unfinished and finished furniture and sales.
The family made the final decision to expand its services when several local unfinished furniture stores went out of business, Barb said.
She said after that point, there was no longer a business offering unfinished furniture in the area.
“It goes well with our refinishing shop,” Conover said. “There’s nobody in this area who does what we do.”
The Furniture Mill offers stocked and custom unfinished and finished furniture, vinyl and wooden swingsets, car ports, gazebos, playhouses, bridges, pergolas, picnic tables and outdoor furniture, bridges and wooden arbors on their lot.
“I was born and raised in this business,” Reading said. “Each person here knows how to do everything, but each one of us has our own area of expertise.”
One of their popular services is furniture refinishing. Customers can pick a finish that matches other furniture they may already have, or choose a custom finish. Other new services include stripping and repair.
Each month, The Furniture Mill holds a giveaway in which a piece of furniture is selected by the family and customers who provide the shop with their e-mail address and sign up for their newsletter become eligible to win. Winners are drawn at random.

Conover said customers in the area are extremely friendly.
“They come to us because they know they can trust us to do the job right,” Conover said. “We save them time and money.”
The Furniture Mill is divided between two townships, Ewing and Hopewell and has two addresses for the same location: 1536 Lower Ferry Road in Ewing and 1536 Reed Road in Pennington.
