The Township Council has approved the contract for the remaining work at the Schenck Farmstead.
The contract with Kunzman Construction, approved August 16, was for $167,257.20 — the lowest of seven bidders ranging up to $313,000. It will cover the final work related to the reconstruction of the school house and wagon house located at the Schenck Farm on Southfield Road.
In June the council rejected two bids, including one from Kunzman, and another from Dell-Tech Inc., because both were found to be “non-responsive.”
That was because they both failed to acknowledge receiving an addendum to the original bid specifications. The rest of the bids exceeded the township’s budget for the project. The project was re-bid in July.
Along with the contract, the council also approved two change orders to the contract with Authentic Construction, which was originally awarded in October. That contract, for the renovation to the artifacts area of the barn, as well as the wagon house foundation, school house foundation, and hardscape, was originally for $129,970. The first change order reflected an increase of $6,291.97, while the second reflected a decrease of $3,400.
The council endorsed a Master Plan for the farmstead, off Southfield Road, in 2008. The site’s structures date from approximately the 1740s to the early 1900s, and officials have hoped it would serve as a tool for educating residents about the town’s agricultural roots, as well as serve as the home base for the township’s historical society.
Other business. The council also approved a contract with Solid Waste Equipment, of Paramus, for $50,795 for public works equipment.
Solid Waste Equipment is to provide a replacement 25-yard 2010 or newer compactor truck body that will be mounted on an existing 2011 Sterling chassis for the Public Works Department.
It also approved the purchase of an 80,000-watt diesel-fueled generator at the Public Works facility. The contract was awarded to Lance Electric, of Tabernacle, for $56,600. Lance Electric was the lowest of seven bidders, which ranged from $56,600 to $83,999.
