Many West Windsor and Plainsboro residents helped with the Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Greater Mercer County’s community cookbook, “Jersey Cooks: Local Food, Local Families, Local Favorites.” The debut of the book is at the fall luncheon, Food for Thought, on Thursday, October 21, at Greenacres Country Club in Lawrenceville. Tickets are $72.

The proceeds of the book benefit the Ohel Avraham Kosher Food Pantry housed within JFCS’ office at 707 Alexander Road, West Windsor. The food pantry provides non-perishable food items and food vouchers to families in need in the greater Mercer County area. Books are $18.

Chris Cirkus of West Windsor chaired the recipe review committee, which was responsible for reading through the more than 350 recipe submissions and deciding which recipes would be printed, testing recipes where deemed necessary, and standardizing the format of all recipes. Ellen Judson, also of West Windsor, served on this committee and was instrumental in editing the book.

Recipes were solicited through area synagogues, as well as through constituents, board members, and volunteers of JFCS. The book contains 246 recipes.

West Windsor contributors include Cathy Bailey, Laurie Bershad, Charlene Borsack, Judy Bortnick, Ellen Botwin, Karen Brodsky, Pamela Chartock, Holli Elias, Theza Friedman, Eva Goldberg, Diane Goldstein, Susan Gross, Anita Grueneberg, Barbara Kahner, Amy Klein, Mindy Langer, Dawn O’Brien, Bev Schneider, Zhanna Sheykhet, Hillary Turchin, Robin Valentine, Amy Vogel, Linda Watson, Audrey Wisotsky, Patti Wold, and Elena Zaklis. Plainsboro contributors include Will Jarret and Elaine Levine.

The luncheon features speaker Mikey Azzara, owner of Zone 7, a company that delivers food grown on local farms to area restaurants. Azzara is also founder of the Lawrenceville Farmer’s Market and co-leader of Slow Food New Jersey.
