The West Windsor Police Department will be undergoing an assessment by the state Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) on Sunday, November 21, when it will examine the department’s polices and procedures, management operations, and support services.
The NJSACOP will assess the department in alliance with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Accreditation comes through certification by the state Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (NJLEAC).
The police department, which received its initial accreditation status in May, 2007, will have to demonstrate compliance with a total of 112 standards in order to maintain its accreditation.
Once the assessors complete their review, they will report back to the commission, which will decide if West Windsor will be granted re-accreditation. The accreditation period is for three to four years, during which the department must submit annual reports showing continued compliance.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments by calling the assessor’s dedicated telephone line at 609-799-0452 on Monday, November 22, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
