CookAppeal seeks basic cookbooks, old and new, to share with pre-teens at the Isle Youth School in Trenton. Chef E (Elizabeth Stelling of Plainsboro) is teaching a basic culinary course to inner city kids who have no financial way to afford books on nutrition or cooking. HomeFront, the Mercer County non-profit organization that battles family homelessness and provides support programs for those living in poverty in Central New Jersey, is promoting a week of Hope. Events begin on Saturday, May 9, with Run for Hope on Washington Road, West Windsor; and continue with an evening celebration picnic, a Hope on 2 Wheels Motorcycle Run, community food drives, volunteer opportunities, and educational programs. Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Mercer County is part of a campaign to recover names and identities of Holocaust victims. Yad Vashem launched a database of names at www.yadvashem.org where users are able to search for names, photographs, and brief histories of more than 3 million victims. Films Needed

Trenton Film Society seeks student made short films (five to twenty minutes) for “The Not Quite Legal Film Festival.” The festival is open to any student from New Jersey or attending school in New Jersey who is between 15 to 21 years of age. Students may submit up to two films for consideration. Deadline is Friday, May 15. There will be a public screening of the chosen films over a weekend-long festival to be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14, at the Mill Hill Playhouse, 205 East Front Street, Trenton. American Cancer Society seeks volunteers for Relay for Life, an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out, barbecue, dance, and take turns walking or running around a track to raise funds to fight cancer.
