GroWW (Greening of West Windsor), the West Windsor Library, and the Friends of West Windsor Library, will conduct “I Love Earth,” a triathlon event for students aged 7 to 15 years to celebrate Earth & Arbor Day. The three-part event requirements include:##M:[more]##
1. A literary (essay/poem) or visual (letter-sized drawing/ painting) expression of their love for nature, to be submitted between April 17 and 22.
2. A hike through the Rogers Arboretum (identifying two marked trees as proof of participation) or a bike ride through the Mercer County Park conducted by the WW Bicycle & Pedestrian Alliance.
3. One of the following environment-related activities conducted at the West Windsor library on Saturday, May 2, between 10 a.m. and noon: Progressive Painting around the I Love Earth theme: mud cloth painting using natural dyes; making a usable compost container from milk jugs, soil, and worms (bring a small clay pot); making and using all-natural face packs for pre-teens and teens; recycle and recreate to construct a mother’s or father’s day gift. Activities for children under seven include story time.
Students who complete the triathlon will be eligible to enter a raffle for an iPod. Cash prizes will be awarded for literary/visual arts entries, judged by age group (7-9, 10-12, 13-15 years), by the West Windsor Arts Council. Award winning entries and the progressive painting will be displayed at the GroWW Environmental Fair on Saturday, October 3.
