While Acme, the major anchor of the downtown Princeton Junction area, will be closing its doors on Thursday, May 7, amid uncertainties surrounding the shopping center’s future, it does not seem all is lost for Route 571.##M:[more]##
One belief that planners in West Windsor had repeatedly discussed throughout redevelopment debates was that Route 571 would develop itself, and news that a medical practice will be opening up over Chase Bank by the end of May may give some credence to those beliefs.
Oral Surgery Associates of Central New Jersey will be relocate its practice to Princeton Junction by around Friday, May 15. The group has three partners, two of whom are West Windsor residents.
In making the move to Princeton Junction, the group is consolidating its Princeton and East Windsor offices into the new practice. Why the move? “We wanted to be located in a place where people from Princeton would still be willing to seek treatment and for people from the other end of Route 571, like East Windsor, Hightstown and Cranbury,” says Sean Bradley, one of the partners.
But “one of the predominant reasons was that it was a good central location” and because “the Route 571 development plan was tending to go along the lines of what we thought would be a good location for a medical facility,” he added.
Even though he says it currently looks like “bankers’ row,” he still believes there are several healthcare professionals, like dentists and other physicians, eying the area. “We felt it was only going to improve as time went on with regard to being an ideal location,” Bradley said. “With the University Medical Center (of Princeton) relocating to Route 1 in Plainsboro, we felt that this would give us great access to the hospital when it relocated, especially if the Route 571 bypass through Sarnoff happens.”
Bradley said since the practice would be located just minutes from the hospital, patients coming from the hospital would have very easy access to the practice as well.
Bradley, whose father is a retired obstetrician from Wayne, has been with the group since 1992. He earned his degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1987. He did his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Georgetown University Medical Center.
Ira Cheifetz, a West Windsor resident, has been with the practice since the 1970s. Cheifetz has began practicing oral and maxillofacial surgery after completing his residency in 1978. He earned his degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and then did a general practice residency at Flushing Hospital and Medical Center. He also did his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital.
Fellow West Windsor resident Jonathon Sasportas has been with the practice for 10 years. His father was a vice president for Travelers Insurance Co. He also earned his degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, School of Medicine, in 1995. He also holds degrees from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine and Union College. He did his residency at Mount Sinai Hospital School of Medicine.
While the part of the building the facility will encompass was built as a shell, the doctors’ office is still in progress, with the tentative opening date of Friday, May 15.
