Sports Briefs
High School South graduate Jason Tosches, who plays for the Moravian college men’s lacrosse team, finished the season with 18 goals and seven assists. He finished his career with 92 goals and 24 assists.
Katie Lalli, a junior at the Stevens Institute of Technology, scored a goal 40 seconds into the second half of Stevens’ win over Alfred University on April 26.

South football coach Todd Smith has been named New Jersey’s offensive coordinator as part of the coaching staff of the upcoming 12th annual New Jersey vs. Northeast All-Star Classic football game. During the fame, 45 of the state’s top seniors will play against 45 of the top seniors from Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Virginia, and Washington D.C.
South graduate Everett Schlawin, a senior at Oberlin College, finished seventh at the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon on May 17. He finished in 2:39.2. He was second in the male 20-24 age division. At Oberlin, he placed second overal at the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet in the 10,”000 meeters and set a new school record with his time of 31:56.67.
West Windsor resident Jake Gurock placed first at the International Junior Golf Tour event in Bloomfield, CT. He shot a 75-79 and had a two-day total of 154. He was in the boys 12 and under division.
WW-P graduate Matt Davidson finished third at the eGolf Professional Bolle Classic this month, with a total of 65-66-69-200 — 13-under par.
High School South lacrosse players David Twamley, Eric Valero, Connor Farrell, Henry MacQueen, and Evan Burke were named to the All-CVC first team. Twamley was named the Colonial Valley Conference Player of the Year.
High School North’s boys’ lacrosse coach was named the CVC Coach of the Year. North players Todd Petrone, Andrew Washuta, A.J. Reichert, Andrew Lalli, and Brandon Worrall were named to the All-CVC first team.
The West Windsor Plainsboro Travel Basketball Cougars team recently won the championship in the Central Jersey Youth Basketball League. Members of the team include: Christopher Okorodudu, Nick Valen, Dan Jugo, Darrien Banks, Mike Klotz, Paul Balesteri, Brian Schoenauer, Brian Rivers, Alex Sandgren, and Anthony Colonna.
Megan Donnelly, of West Windsor, and Abby Jones, of Plainsboro are members of the the Princeton Soccer Association Pizzazz U13 girls soccer team that won the Platinum flight for U13 Girls at the YMS Epic Tournament in Pennsylvania last month. The Pizzazz shutout four teams and remained undefeated in tournament play.
High School South student Laura Kuhlman, and a member of the Mercer Junior Rowing Club, has signed to row for the Duke rowing team beginning in fall, 2009.
Kyle Stiefel, of West Windsor, and a member of the boys’ lacrosse team at the Peddie School, earned the Outstanding Player award, and Rory Loughran, of West Windsor, received the Del-Von Coaches Award for leadership, sportsmanship and commitment.
South’s Katie Kellner and North’s Deesha Sharma were honored at the NJSIAA Scholar Athlete Luncheon for their achievements both on the field and in the classroom.
West Windsor resident and North freshman Ryan Siegler shot a 75 at the Optimisit International Golf Tour qualifier to advance to the Optimist International Junior Championships from July 23-28 at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Florida.
High School North graduate Christie Jensen helped the Seton Hall softball team earn the eighth seed in the BIG EAST Championship last month, where they fell in the quartfinals to DePaul. Playing in over half of the team’s games, one of Jensen’s highlights came when she provided the clutch hit in a victory against Long Island University.
Plainsboro resident Stefan Kolata placed second in the Diana Run 5k in Plainsboro. West Windsor resident Steve Au-Yueng placed fifth.
