Births

The University Medical Center at Princeton has announced the following births:

Sons were born to West Windsor residents Yi Zang and Gang Wei, June 10; and Kristin and Douglas Rockhill, June 19.

Deaths

Audrey R. Bennett, 85, of Henry, Illinois, died May 30 at Heartland Health Care Center. She was a former longtime Plainsboro resident. Bennett served as a corporal with the Marines during World War II.

Survivors include a son, William F. Bennett of Yardville; three daughters and two sons-in-laws, Audrey Bennett and Michael Hensley of Plano, Texas, Dianne C. Bennett of West Peoria, Illinois, and Judith E. and Dennis Hoffman of Bordentown; five grandchildren; great great grandchildren; two brothers Richard Veith of Erie, and James Veith of Fresno, California. Paul R. Clarkson, 74, of West Windsor died June 11 at Merwick Care Center in Princeton. Born in New York City, he lived in the area for 37 years.

A graduate of Villanova University, Class of 1957, with a major in English, he received his master’s degree in English from the University of Notre Dame in 1961. An English professor at Seton Hall University, he then shifted his career to work in the field of business with seven corporations including American General Insurance Corporation. He was a volunteer for the Princeton Healthcare Ministry. Clarkson served with the Army from 1958 to 1960 in Germany and from 1962 to 1963 state side.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Clarkson and James Castiglione of Hoboken, a son and daughter-in-law, John and Whitney Clarkson of Rochester, New York; his grandchildren, Campbell and Harrison Clarkson and Sophia Castiglione; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Joan Clarkson of Virginia. Ajit Modi, 51, of Plainsboro, died June 11. A passenger on a whale watching tour boat, his body was discovered without a life jacket by the Coast Guard near the Cape May Lewes Ferry Terminal close to four hours later after he was seen jumping off the boat.

The incident is under investigation by the Coast Guard and the New Jersey State Police.

Shirlee Schiffman of West Windsor died at home on June 14. A memorial service was held on June 17 at Congregation Beth Chaim.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, she received a bachelor’s degree in geology from City College of New York. She retired in 2003 after a long career with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

Survivors include her husband of close to 50 years, Arnold; two daughters, Erica Ferry and Robyn Handsman; sons-in-law, Brian and Michael; grandsons, Jesse, Kyle, Justin, and Connor; and a sister, Joan Diamond.

Stefan Guzy, 79, of West Windsor died June 14 in the University Medical Center at Princeton. Born in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, he was lived in West Windsor for many years.

A graduate of Rutgers University, he was an Army veteran. Guzy retired from NJ Bell Telephone after many years of service. He was past president and a member of the West Windsor Lions Club. He also served on the Township Committee, the Board of Education, and the Zoning Board.

Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife, Frances Buelow Guzy; two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy Guzy, and Barbara and Les King; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard Guzy, and Jeff and Laura Guzy; one sister and brother-in-law, Terry and Al Schmidt; one brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Nikki Guzy; and five grandchildren, Trevor, Connor, Logan, Kyle, and Stephanie.

Catherine V. Kenney, 81, of Malden, Massachusetts, died June 16. Survivors include a nephew, John G. Kenney of West Windsor. Donations may be made to Sisters of Saint Joseph, c/o Mission Advancement, 637 Cambridge Street, Brighton, MA 02135

Benjamin Anthony Wisniewski, 91, of Edison died June 18 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Robert Tyson of Plainsboro.

George Warren, 94, died June 21 at Greenwood House, Ewing. Former president of the Jewish Community Center of Princeton Mercer Bucks, he was a former chairman of the Foundation of the Jewish Federation. Survivors include granddaughter Alexandra T. Warren of West Windsor. Donations may be made to Greenwood House, 53 Walter Street, Ewing 08628.

Joanne Rupprecht Snyder, 62, of Morrisville, Pennsylvania, died June 23, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Born in Trenton, she was a former West Windsor resident.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Angela Fletcher of Great Falls, Montana; daughter, Lisa A. Snyder of Hamilton Square; two brothers and a sister-in-law, William E. Rupprecht of Morrisville, and John T. and Sandy Rupprecht of Southampton, Pennsylvania; and two grandchildren, Eric William Fletcher and Alicia Fletcher.

Her funeral will be Friday, June 26, at 9:30 a.m. at the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home, 17 South Delaware Avenue, Yardley, Pennsylvania. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 26, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Morrisville, Pennsylvania.
