As West Windsor heads into a new year following a heated campaign season, post-election reports of contributions and expenditures for each candidate who ran in the May election are now available on the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.
Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh and his team, Councilwoman Linda Geevers and Councilman Kamal Khanna, who won by large margins in May, seem to have had much more money in their campaign coffers compared with their opponents — Council President Charles Morgan, who ran for mayor, and Nitin Shah and Anupam Gupta, who ran for council. Mayoral candidate Pete Weale stuck to his word and did not spend any money on his campaign.
Each of the candidates who ran in the election filed individual reports, and Hsueh’s team, West Windsor First, also filed a report as a team, while most of the money in Morgan’s team, Best 4 West Windsor, seemed to come out of Morgan’s own individual fund.
Hsueh claimed 72 percent of the vote in the elections, and his slate claimed victory in each of the township’s 16 voting districts. In the mayoral race, Hsueh received a total of 3,572 votes; Morgan received 1,306; and Pete Weale received 175 votes.
In the council race, Geevers received the support of 3,583 voters — 73 percent of those who went out to the polls — and Khanna received 3,071, or 62 percent of the vote. Nitin Shah and Anupam Gupta, Morgan’s running mates, received 1,448 and 1,332 votes, respectively.
Hsueh alone reported having a cumulative amount of $68,401.96 in contributions, while Morgan reported a cumulative amount of $33,046.04. Both candidates, however, carried over funds from their previous campaign to deposit into their current ones.
Hsueh spent a total of $49,235.26 throughout his campaign, while Morgan spent a total of $32,339.05.
In addition, the West Windsor First team reported a total of $14,533.84 in contributions and $2,228.84 in expenditures this campaign season. Individual candidates from that team also spent their own money. Geevers received $395.67 in contributions and spent $145.67, while Khanna received a total of $7,140.44 and spent $4,730.77.
On the other team, Shah reported receiving $1,900 total in contributions and spent $1,500 in total, while Gupta received a total of $3,666.90 and spent a total of $2,805.
