Iona College: Laurence M. Downes of West Windsor received a Jubilee award during Iona’s reunion weekend in June. The awards are presented annually to alumni who exhibit a commitment to the college even after they graduate and who have made an impact on their greater professional communities.
Downes, Class of ‘79 with a degree in business administration, received in MBA in 1981. He is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of New Jersey Resources and its principal subsidiary, New Jersey Natural Gas. He is a director and former chairman of the American Gas Association and the Natural Gas Council, and a trustee of the American Gas Foundation.
Princeton University: Shaina Watrous, a June graduate from High School South, is in the inaugural Bridge Year Program beginning the last week of August with a pre-departure orientation at Princeton. Students will travel to program sites as a group immediately following orientation. Watrous is going to India, where service opportunities include working with a microfinance organization.
The goal of the program is to provide students with an expanded perspective, a chance to relax and refocus between high school and college, and an orientation to service in keeping with the university’s informal motto, “Princeton in the Nation’s Service and in the Service of All Nations.”
Students will live with families in the community they are serving, and they will receive on-site language training.
James Madison University: Matthew Per of West Windsor was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester. A rising sophomore majoring in business, he is a High School South graduate, Class of 2008.
Boston University: Plainsboro residents Jessica A. Galvano and Tanmay Parekh are on the dean’s list.
Lynchburg College: Sarah Ashley Preno of West Windsor graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. She is a graduate of High School South.
Moravian College: Jason Paul Tosches of West Windsor received a bachelor’s degree in political science. A member of the men’s lacrosse team, he served as captain in his senior year. Tosches is a graduate of High School South.
Penn State: Nicholas D. Miele Jr. graduated with distinction from with bachelor degrees in science integrative arts, information sciences and technology, and a minor in music technology. He is employed by Merrill Lynch in Hopewell.
Villanova University: Stephanie Davis of West Windsor graduated from Villanova’s School of Business with a degree in marketing and a minor in entrepreneurship. She is on the dean’s list.
