West Windsor Arts Council seeks art for “Avenue of the Arts,” an exhibit of visual arts hanging throughout MarketFair during September to celebrate the grand re-opening of the Michael Graves-redesigned shopping center. The event, a major fundraiser for the arts council to convert the Princeton Junction Firehouse to an arts center, includes a day of music and food on Saturday, September 26, a patron’s party on Saturday, September 12, and shopping discounts. West Windsor Library Youth Services Department is holding open auditions for children and teens ages 8 to 17, one actress 18 to 30, and one actress 30 to 45, for Halloween Playfest. They will be staging two original short plays aimed at children and young adults, “Bloody Massie” and “The Most Absolutely Amazing Halloween Party Ever.” The auditions will take place on Saturdays, July 25 and August 1 and 8, 2 to 4 p.m.; Wednesdays, July 29 and August 5, 7 to 9 p.m., Playfest will be October 22 to 25. No acting experience is necessary, but bring a resume and headshot if you have them. Guitar or keyboard players are needed for a few of the female teenage roles. Auditions will consist of readings from the scripts, which are available for inspection at the library reference desk, or via E-mail. PinnWorth Productions will hold auditions for “Equus,” a drama by Peter Shaffer that will be directed by Lou J. Stalsworth. Audition dates and times are Tuesday and Wednesday, July 28 and 29, at 7 p.m. All roles are open, including those for seven adults and one teenage boy, as well as five dancers who appear in non-speaking roles as horses. Actors are asked to prepare a three-to five-minute dramatic monologue and be ready to read from the script. Actors must be 17 or older to audition. Twenty Minutes to Curtain Productions, a company that will perform at Kelsey Theatre for the first time in September, will host auditions for its world premiere musical version of “Alice in Wonderland.” Auditions will be held Saturdays, August 1 and 8, noon to 5 p.m. Claudia Perry directs the show.

All roles are open, including nine adults (paid), seven teens ages 11 to 18, and six children ages 5 to 10. All actors must sing. Actors are asked to prepare one up-tempo song and one ballad in a traditional musical theatre style and to bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. The Yardley Players will hold auditions for “Bus Stop” on Saturday, August 1, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Sunday, August 2, 1 to 4 p.m. Actors will be asked to read from the script at the audition; no advance preparation is necessary. Roles include adult males and females of various ages and one teenage girl. One of the male actors, age 35 to 50, must play the guitar. Gallery 125 has a call for entries for “Point of View,” an all media show (except video and installations). The deadline is Wednesday, September 23; the juror is Ruane Miller. Jersey Shore Public Relations and Advertising Association has a cover design competition and scholarship for students in vocation school, high school, or college. Arts Council of Princeton seeks artwork for the “Princeton Annual,” with a theme of “Native Son: Works Inspired by the Life and Legacy of Paul Robeson.” Artists may use Robeson’s life as an inspiration for creating a new work or submit an existing work. Capital Health is seeking art of all media from regional artists for its new hospital on Scotch Road in Hopewell. The hospital will both purchase existing work and identify artists for site-specific work to be commissioned. Artwork of all mediums and of any scale will be considered, including mural work, sculpture, tapestry, glassware, stain-glass, ceramic, woodwork, photography, printmaking, multi-media, furniture, water features, and painting. For Parents & Kids

Howell Farm is accepting applications for parent/child enrollment in its fall hatchery program which begins in September. The program is designed to introduce children ages 3 to 5 to life on the farm, while parents volunteer time helping the staff work with school group visits to the farm and other chores related to farming. One parent must work at the farm as a volunteer in exchange for one child’s participation in the program. No experience is necessary.

Activities include feeding farm animals, collecting eggs, storytelling, and taking a hayride and horseback ride. The program runs one morning per week for 12 weeks, on either Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays, starting September 14 to 18 from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Parents may enroll by attending an organizational meeting on either Tuesday, August 11, at 1 p.m. or Wednesday, August 19, at 1 p.m. Meetings are intended for parents only. Applications will not be accepted by mail or phone.

VSA Arts of New Jersey offers fall programs for children with autism including new creative drama and inclusive workshops. Parent/child workshops in the arts for children with autistic behavior is offered on Saturdays, September 26 to December 5 in New Brunswick, for one hour a week.
