This doesn’t make any sense. How can the Township justify a $20,000 increase for someone we don’t even know. Who is Mr. Hary? I know that both Giuliano and I will not see any more money in our paychecks for quite a while and he works for one of the richest companies in the world. In light of the fact that our taxes have just increased over $100 more a year, I think this deserves an explanation. Are there other salary increases on the way?

Last night, the Mayor proposed making Mr. Hary the Township Administrator. This public proposal was made without any Council meetings to discuss the question whether other candidates should be considered and without any Council executive session to discuss compensation. The Mayor said “no” when I asked whether he had solicited applications from the outside world. The proposed salary is nearly $20,000 more than Mr. Marion was making each year. When I made a motion to appoint Mr. Hary at the same salary as Mr. Marion rather than this huge increase, I did not get a second from any other Member of Council. Mr. Hary was appointed on a vote of 4-1. In an economy where people are looking for jobs and salary increases are negligible or on hold, it’s amazing that we did not reach out to invite applicants to see how many qualified individuals might be willing to take this job at Mr. Marion’s salary. If anyone is disturbed by any of this, you should register your concerns with the Mayor and the other Members of Council.
