It started with Tom Rath’s book, “How Full Is Your Bucket?” The book resulted in Village School students and staff collection of more than $250 for the Mercer County Geriatric Center. The residents of the center will use the money for social activities like going to the movies or bowling. Village School Human Relations Club members who organized the collection include Taylor Hoogsteden, Ria Mittal, Natasha Dandekar, Jason Wilks, and Jack Sheerin.
Grover Middle School students in Joanne Glover’s eighth grade class wrote and illustrated books with a focus on social issues and discrimination written for students in grades four and five. The students later visited Village School and read to the students.
Students in Stacey Lindes’s class from the Maurice Hawk School created holiday cards, which were given to the senior citizens living in the Gables, a senior community in West Windsor. The class discussed how older members of families spend the holidays and the importance of families. The students read stories about older family members, created a banner to mark the project, and with help from two class mothers, Mary Abitanto and Jacqueline Fernandez, delivered the special messages to the residents.
