Shreya Raghuraman, an eighth grade student at Grover Middle School, was called to action after taking an introductory unit about the crisis in Darfur, Sudan. Raghuraman approached her teacher, Seamus Dowling, with the idea of helping the children of that war torn province. Shreya created posters, public service announcements, and collected money from her fellow students during lunch. She raised $200 that will be donated to UNICEF and earmarked for relief in Darfur.##M:[more]##
“In these troubled times, I take heart when a 13 year old expresses concern about people a world away, whom she will likely never meet,” says Dowling. “In the final analysis, her actions create hope.”
