Boys Winter Track
North. Jim Rosa, Joe Rosa, John LiPuma, and Tyler Corkdale finished second in the mile race with a time of 18:07.05 at the Nike Indoor Track and Field Nationals in Landover, MD on March 16. Steve Au-Yeung, Ryan Sleeper, LiPuma and Corkdale finished eighth in the 4×800 relay. Barnett Wu placed 14th in the shot put, 54-2.##M:[more]##
South. Brian Leung placed third in the two-mile run at the Nike Indoor Track and Field Nationals in Landover, MD on March 16. He finished with a time of 8:59.66, which broke a 29-year old state record.
Girls Winter Track
North. Kelly Callahan, Trish Reilly, Ryan Williams, and Chelsea Walters finished ninth in the distance medley with a time of 12:48.24 at the Nike Indoor Track and Field Nationals in Landover, MD on March 16.
South. Katie Kellner finished fifth in the 5,”000 meters with a time of 18:01.73 at the Nike Indoor Track and Field Nationals in Landover, MD on March 16. Sammy Howell finished 14th in the girls’ high jump at 5-foot-3.5.
Sports Briefs
Uche Ndubizu, a High School South graduate, played in the NCAA tournament with the men’s basketball team at the University of Rochester. The team lost 57-48 to Coast Guard on March 14, closing out the season with a record of 22-6. Ndubizu played and started in 26 games this season, averaging 26 minutes a game. He recorded 101 field goals with a .587 shooting percentage scoring 254 total points (averaging 9.8 per game. Ndubizu had 183 rebounds, 95 defensively and 88 offensively (the team’s highest) placing him second overall in rebounds. He also recorded 32 assists. He was named MVP in the Chase Tournament.
Matt Lalli, a High School North graduate, a senior at Colgate University, where he plays on the men’s lacrosse team, scored three goals and had one assist against Holy Cross on March 8. The team won 15-5. Lalli had four goals and three assists in the first five games this season.
Plainsboro resident Rich Gawlak, a High School South graduate, went 3-4 with three runs batted to help the College of New Jersey defeat UMass, 5-3, on March 16 in the Greater Phoenix Invitational in Chandler, AZ. Gawlak, a designated hitter, was also selected as the NJAC Player of the Week on March 18.
