The May 4 incident was the fourth rabid animal report within Middlesex County in 2008, but the first reported in Plainsboro. According to the Middlesex County Public Health Department, the animal tested positive on May 7 at a state laboratory for rabies. The resident was advised to seek medical attention for “post exposure prophylaxis.” No other human or animal exposure has been reported, the health department stated in a press release.
The press release advised residents to report wild animals showing signs of unusual behavior and to have their pets receive their rabies vaccination. It also recommended residents avoid contact with wild animals and immediately report any bites to the health department and consult a physician as soon as possible.
