West Windsor women have been bowling on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 a.m., at Colonial Lanes, in Lawrenceville, for 35 years. The Wednesday Morning Coffee League, originally called the West Windsor Bowling League, was founded by Sandy Conte in September, 1973. In 2001 the women combined with a Lawrenceville League and became Wednesday Morning Coffee League. Bowlers are from Lawrenceville, West Windsor, Plainsboro, with one from Princeton and one from Yardley, Pennsylvania.##M:[more]##
Nancy Skalinski of West Windsor is the only one left from the 1973 season. Some members work — mostly part time. Some are stay-at-home moms and some are retired.
Conte brought several of the women into the insurance company she worked with. “Although she worked practically full time hours, she always had Wednesdays off for bowling,” says Skalinski. “Naturally, when I began, I too had Wednesday off — alongside Mary Cassady, Florence Lydon, and whoever else from the league took a job at the company. The agents and the clients soon learned not to call on Wednesday — it was bowling day.”
High individual game awards were received by Kathy Dalcourt, 243, Plainsboro; Nancy Slatas, 225, West Windsor; and Josepha Giglio, 219, West Windsor. High average awards were received by Yvonne Quinn, 169, Princeton; Nancy Skalinski, 161, West Windsor; and Debbie Ritchie, 156, West Windsor. Individual high series awards were received by Kaaron Ross, 593, West Windsor; Eva Spinell, 555, Yardley, PA; and Stefanie Bradley, 530, West Windsor. First place team, No Doubt About It, includes Yvonne Quinn, Josepha Giglio, and Nancy Slatas. The second place team, Bowling Buddies, includes Robin Miller, Holli Winclechter, and Nancy Skalinski.##M:[more]##
The league, which follows the West Windsor-Plainsboro and Lawrenceville school schedules, has no games when the schools are closed for a holiday or snow day. The banquet this year was held Leonardo’s Mediterranean Grill.
“The league includes woman of all ages and bowling abilities,” says Skalinski. “There is no need to be a good bowler — we are a social, fun group.”
There are immediate openings for the new season beginning in September. While many of the members work part-time, some are retired or stay-at-home moms. For information call Nancy Skalinski at 609-799-2677 or Jacqueline O’Connor at 609-844-0888.
