Sports Briefs
Christopher Clark, a 2004 North graduate, finished the 2008 Marine Marathon in Washington, D.C., on October 26 with a time of 3:22. He placed 789 in a field of 18,”261. During his senior year at North, Clark was the captain of the North cross country team. He will graduate from the University of Maryland in December.
The West Windsor-Plainsboro Tornadoes U9 boys defeated the Plainfield Jaguars United, 2-1, on October 26. The Tornadoes led in the first half with a goal driven by Daniel Joseph. In the second half, the Jaguars United tied the score, but the Tornadoes rallied to take the lead with a goal by Alex Arias, off an assist by Daniel Kelly. Julian Zhang, Keith Register, Daniel Kelly, and Conor Kelly were on offense, and Rocco Giancarli, Kieran Ireland, Alex Arias, and Ajun Wit also played well. Arias and David Corell split goalkeeping duties.
The team fell to the Piscataway Tornadoes, 3-1, in a prior game on October 12. Conor Kelly scored the goal. Goalie Rocco Giancarlo had 13 saves.
The West Windsor-Plainsboro Wildcats Pop Warner Pee Wee team was runner-up in the Central Jersey confrerence championship played at Monroe on November 2, after falling to Raritan Bay, 12-0. WW-P will advance to represent Central Jersey in the Pop Warner Garden State games, and will play on Sunday, November 16 in Burlington County against the Jersey Shore/Burlington winner. WWP’s record this season, including playoffs, is 9-2.
Drew Lachenmayer, a 2006 graduate of South, has been the starting center on the University of Richmond football team, where he has a full scholarship. At South, he was coached by Lou Solomon and Todd Smith, who helped him get recruited. His father also coached him for 10 years in Pop Warner.
High School South graduate Jessica Carnevale has two assists so far this year for Villanova’s women’s soccer team.
High School South graduate Anthony Aloi, now a freshman at Furman University, shot 70-73-69—212 at the Mizuno Savanna Collegiate earlier this month, which allowed him to get into a playoff for the tournament championship. He was later defeated on the second playoff hole at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Georgia. He took second place with 13 birdies over 54 holes.
High School North graduate Christine Franz scored a goal in Ithaca College’s field hockey team’s 2-1 win over Oswego on October 24.
High School North graduate Lauren Lentine, a junior midfielder on Frostburg’s women’s soccer team, was leading the team with four assists and is second with 12 points.
High School South graduate Michelle Barbarasch, a junior on The College of New Jersey’s women’s cross country team, finished 15th at the Mainline Invitational on October 24 with a time of 19:43.
Forty-seven students from the West Windsor Tae Kwon Do & Kickboxing Academy competed in the 34th Annual U.S. Open Martial Arts Championships last month. The event was held at the Rutgers. The competitors included:
