The campaign is running through Friday, January 2. Officers will be conducting saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints, looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated.
The goal of the program, part of national effort launched in 1999, is to help raise awareness “though high visibility enforcement and public education tools, including posters, banners, and mobile video display signs,” stated a press release from Plainsboro Police. According to the Division of Highway Traffic Safety, the number of impaired drivers on the road traditionally increases by nearly 10 percent during the holidays.
