Steve Schorr first met Charles Morgan after a Republican primary election when Schorr wrote in his own name on a ballot for West Windsor’s Republican Committee. ##M:[more]##Morgan visited him at his home in Windsor Haven, where he has lived for three years. Schorr became a member of the committee, and then manager of Will Anklowitz’ successful campaign for council last fall, and now seeks his own council seat.
Schorr trades bonds in Manhattan by day, and says he wants to be on council so he can help shape the future of the township for his own family. “My wife and I want to raise our family here. I want to do what I can to improve West Windsor and the main thing is making sure West Windsor retains the characteristic that makes it West Windsor in the first place. I’m concerned that if redevelopment brings too much development and too much housing, the town will be too crowded and won’t be as pleasant a place to live,” said Schorr.
Schorr intends to use the blueprint for Anklowitz’ council campaign to build his own. “We plan on meeting as many voters as possible by going door to door, and using that time to find out their priorities,” said Schorr. “We’ll tell them what we stand for, and we think that will be effective in getting their support.”
Aside from the transit village, Schorr says the issue that is most significant is taxes. “I have a strong desire to lower taxes. Mine just went up a lot in the reassessment, like many others. The government should have a lot more money than they used to. It seems they got by well enough before the reassessment, so I’d like to see them return that money or account for how it’s being used,” said Schorr. “If I were to be elected, I’d make it a priority to look at the budgets of the county and see where this money is going, I have the sense they’re spending more than they need right now.”
Schorr was raised on Long Island. His father was a teacher and a school principal, and his mother was a teacher and a school psychologist. His wife, Elizabeth Jeglic, is an assistant professor at John Jay College. The couple lived in Plainsboro before moving to West Windsor.
Schorr studied at Penn before getting an MBA from NYU. Morgan says Schorr is a valuable addition to the ticket. “He brings intelligence and good listening skills. He has a significant interest in helping the community. Like Will, he’s just a really good guy. He will bring a positive, calming approach to the issues. You won’t see him up there blabbing on about nasty comments and irrelevancies,” said Morgan. “He will do what needs to be done to get elected.”
