##M:[more]##During a June, 2006, trip to West Windsor Township, I was both shocked and horrified to find the area behind the Ellsworth’s Center once owned by my late husband, John A. Ellsworth, in a state of extreme dilapidation and looking like an abandoned ghost town.
Through my recently renewed subscription to the WW-P newspaper, I learned about the problems spanning 18 plus years regarding this property.
Speaking for both myself and my late husband, John, let me say that the recent development to renovate the blighted area is certainly good new for all residents and even former residents like myself of West Windsor Township and the adjoining community of Plainsboro.
My late husband, John, moved to West Windsor-Plainsboro Township in 1926 at age 9 and lived and worked in the area ’til he retired in 1985.
John was so proud of West Windsor-Plainsboro Township and along with running his very successful business — Ellsworth Wines and Liquors (formerly the Princeton Junction Package Store) from 1950 to 1985 when he moved to Arizona. He devoted many hours of his free time to founding the West Windsor Little League, was a member and vice president of the West Windsor/Mercer County Parks Commission from 1967-1980, and formed the West Windsor State Bank (now Princeton Bank on Route 571), which became one of the most successful small banks in the state providing much needed service to the citizens of West Windsor Township.
Had John been with me during this trip, I’m sure he would have been as shocked as I was that the members of West Windsor Township Committee and its board members would allow this sad situation to drag on for such a long time.
We hope this situation continues to improve and that this once beautiful property will be restored to its original potential, benefiting the township and its resident for many years to come.
