##M:[more]##Have you noticed? Our Governor is a changed man. He had a near death experience and is telling everyone how “blessed” he is. Of course, he has always been blessed but surviving a car crash at a high rate of speed has provided him a unique perspective on life.
I’ve seen this before. Individuals experience a devastating event, such as the death of a family member, the loss of employment or any number of life changing events that derail personal plans, and instead of responding to such disturbances as you might expect — with sadness or discouragement — they feel blessed!
It reminds me of a story told in the Christian tradition. Jesus’ disciples go back to work shortly after his distressing death as if nothing has happened. The Risen Lord comes to them, however, and joins them in their labor as fishermen, showing them a better way to catch fish. In this exchange with Jesus their lives are forever changed. Now they see their daily routine, their occupation, as a blessed vocation.
We already know Governor Corzine has a heart for the poor. His political work reflects a certain passion to help the weakest and hardest to hear citizens of our state. So, this entire episode fills me with great anticipation. How will this experience continue to change our Governor? How will his new perspective on life be manifested once he has returned to work? I wonder, and I pray that his will be a blessed vocation.
