The WW-P School District’s high schools were left off of Newsweek’s initial list of the nation’s top public schools due to a data reporting error, according to district information officer Gerri Hutner. ##M:[more]##The error has been corrected, and the rankings are in. High School South is number 460 overall, or ninth in the state. High School North is 748 nationwide, or 16th in New Jersey.
Last year, South was ranked 360th, or 11th in the state, and North was ranked 479th in the nation, or 15th in New Jersey.
Other area schools were included on the list of the top 1,”327 schools. Princeton was ranked 218, or 7th in the state, Montgomery was ranked 686 overall, or 15 in the state, and Hopewell Valley was ranked 1,”307, or 45 out of 46 New Jersey schools to make the list.
“A major criterion for the Newsweek standings is the weight placed upon the percentage of students in a district that take an Advanced Placement class and actually sit for the exam.” said Hutner of the district’s slipping rankings. “Students in WW-P have done consistently well on these national examinations.”
It is important to note that we do not require students taking AP classes to sit for the AP examination.
