High School South’s award-winning Pirate Marching Band placed third in its division at the USSBA (United States Scholastic Band Association) National Championship held in Baltimore, Maryland, on November 3. This is the second consecutive year the band has been invited to the national competition.##M:[more]##
The 48-member band received the New Jersey State championship in the Group II division on November 3 at a competition at Washington Township High School in Sewell. The group also received awards for Best Effect, Best Percussion, Best Color Guard, and Best Visual.
This year’s show entitled, “Windows,” featured arrangements of music by David Gillingham. The band’s drill is written by Mark Fisher, with music arrangements by Mike Davis. The band is under the direction of Scott Collins. Jason Price serves as assistant director and percussion instructor. Joshua Suslak, a senior at South, is the drum major.
